Synthetic diamonds are high quality and inexpensive, and are comparable to natural diamonds in all aspects. Artificial large single crystal diamond can be produced by CVD (chemical vapor deposition) method and HPHT (high temperature and high pressure treatment) method, also known as "laboratory grown diamond". The current production technology level has made artificial diamond comparable to natural diamond. Through process control, it can even be better than natural diamond in crystal form, and there are only slight differences with natural diamond in luminous characteristics, color, inclusions and crystal form. Compared with natural diamonds with a retail price of tens of thousands of yuan per carat, the price of artificial diamonds of the same level is only about 70% of that.

From 2001 to 2014, my country's synthetic diamond industry was in a period of rapid growth, and the output scale expanded rapidly, with an average annual compound growth rate of up to 20%; since 2015, the product structure of the synthetic diamond industry has changed, and the output of large single crystals with longer synthesis time has increased. In 2016, my country's overall output of synthetic diamond fell to 13.6 billion carats; in 2017, the industry boom rebounded, and my country's synthetic diamond output was 14.3 billion carats.
